setting land speed records, one rejection at a time

I received a rejection today from F&SF for "The Brethren." According to my immpeccable records, I sent it on April 7th. The rejection was postmarked April 11th. This means JJA rejected it a day or two after receiving it. I know, I know, rejectomancy. Sigh. It goes to Asimov's next.

I am so buying something completely pointless and girly.

I really want to bake a cake but I'm resisting the temptation. A yellow one. With chocolate frosting. And sprinkles, dammit.

Kelly,

I admire your tenacity. You'll batter down their doors soon, I'm sure. I like your reward strategy to keep you going. Good idea.

Thanks! Kelly McCullough gave me the reward system idea. It gives me a boost when all I want to do is be upset.

Yellow cake with chocolate frosting is my favorite!!! You could send it to me.
Keep on truckin'!

I like Patrick's note that you'll batter down their doors.

The only questions is, do you do it by sharing the batter with them, or throwing it at them? And do you use the yellow batter, or the chocolate?

Yay pointless and girly! And I'm glad you're sending it to the next market.

Bridgey: No way, man. If I make it it's all mine.

Sean: neither. That could be construed as batter abuse and I won't be a part of that.

Holly: thanks! I am nothing if not stubborn. I haven't purchased the pointless and girly item yet, but I have a feeling I may have to spring for some Clinique make-up or something. It's gift-with-purchase time at Macy's. yahoo!

I find the content of F&SF stunningly bad for the most part. Their choices baffle me. No wonder the industry is doing so poorly on that level.

The Ben: Is this supposed to make me feel better? Because it really doesn't.

Kelly, I mean the observation in a supportive way; my point is that the editor's generally poor taste probably speaks well of you or anyone that didn't get in so far. But the decline of short story outlets cannot make any of us scifi authors feel good.

The batter has rights? We're worried about abusing the batter?

Or is it our affinity for the batter that is under duress?

Ben: oh, gotcha. Since I don't know you I didn't know if you meant "you must really suck if you can't get in there" or "don't worry, you're just not writing their style." I'm glad it was more along the lines of the latter and not the former.

Sean: I like the batter too much to use it as a projectile.

Ah, our affinity.

Yeah. Batter's good.
